Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) ist ein unbekannter Superstar. Knapp 50 Jahre nach seinem Tod trainieren heute Millionen von Menschen nach seiner Methode – die Geschichte seines außergewöhnlichen Lebens ist aber nur einer kleinen Gruppe von Pilates-Enthusiasten bekannt.

Ich berichte in diesem Blog über die Hintergründe meiner Recherchen zur Biografie von Joseph Pilates. Ich gebe neue Einblicke in das Leben dieses vielschichtigen Mannes, und erzähle von den Menschen, die ihn inspirierten, und von denen, die seine Arbeit weiterführten.

Ich bin Autorin und Historikerin, Jahrgang 1981. 2011 war ich Stipendiatin der Prosawerkstatt des LCB. Ich bin Pilates-Fan und lebe mit meiner Familie in Stuttgart.

Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) is an unknown superstar. Almost 50 years after his death, millions of people are doing his exercises – the story of his extraordinary life is known only to a small number of enthusiasts of the Pilates method.

In this blog, I am giving an account of my research for the biography of Joseph Pilates and I’m sharing new insights into the life of this complex person. I’m telling you about the amazing people who inspired him and about those who continued his work.

I am a writer and historian, born in 1981. I had a scholar ship for the writing program of Literarisches Colloquium Berlin in 2011. I am a Pilates devotee. Me and  my family are living in Stuttgart, Germany.
